To become a referee in the Badger Region you can notify the Badger Region Referee Chairperson that you would like information about becoming a referee. They will instruct you as to what steps you need to take.
All referees for the Badger Region agree to abide by the Badger Region Code of Conduct for Officials. The Code of Conduct may be obtained from the Badger Region Referee Chair.

Referee Candidate Requirements
1. Be a registered member of Badger Region and USA Volleyball.
- To become a member, click here. Submit the Sign Up To Play form online and ALSO send your signed member form (two signatures) to the region office with your member fee. Questions? Contact the region office at 414-443-1011
2. Attend at least one regional official's rules clinic (see referee clinics page).
3. Complete the approved USAV written examination for referees. A written test is taken and must be corrected to 100%.
4. Be evaluated in an on-court training/evaluation prior to being assigned to referee for the region. The sessions are offered periodically in December and January. Scheduling slots are closing up, contact Dan Wong to be scheduled before Jan 8 for the last session.
5. Successfully pass a background check for working with juniors. Background screens are required every two years. If you need to renew, please click here to fill out a "Disclosure and Consent for Background Screening" and send the form and $18 to the region office. The link will take you to an online form to submit your information for the screening. Be sure to hit "ACCEPT" on the screen after you have printed out your form. You will get a confirmation email once your screen has been accepted into the system.
The screening will NOT be processed until you mail the form and the $18 fee to the region office. If you are a first-year ref, the region will waive your $18 fee. REMINDER--NO ADULT MAY HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH ANY JUNIOR UNTIL THEY HAVE A CLEAR BACKGROUND SCREENING ON RECORD. If you have questions, please contact the Region at 414-443-1011.
